Our Process
We use a classic, time honored approach to make sustainable charcoal for culinary delights.
- Component Mixing
-
Our mix processing technology prepares the powder mixture for pressing. In the mix processor, the coconut charcoal powder, binders, add-on additives and water are combined in the correct proportions until the desired wet mixture moisture content is achieved and ready for pressing.
- Briquetting
-
Briquetting is the process of applying force into material being compacted using tablet machine. Briquetting yields a product of defined shape and size. This process requires sufficient and quantified proportions of coconut charcoal powder, a powdered binder and water to form an agglomerated cube.
- Pressing
-
Pressing uses the hydraulic piston press to generate a force on each charcoal cube. In this way, we perform the pressing on a mixture containing the pre-mix wet charcoal. Since the mold filling mechanism is volumetric based, the final mixture has to stay in a powdery form so that it can flow easily into the molds; otherwise, it will cause different masses in each of the 64 molds and hence causing misalignment while pressing which can result to piston oil leak. The whole operation is controlled by a program which can be altered depending on the input material and desired product quality.
- Drying
-
Drying is a mass transfer process that removes water by evaporation from a solid briquette. Our drying system is a combination of Infrared and an external electrical heater.
The wet briquette release from the press is continuously and evenly distributed through a perforated belt. The belt carries the product through the drying area which is divided into several sections. In these cells Infrared radiation is applied with the circulating air heating unit that helps increase the driving force for heat transfer and accelerates drying.
